CMDS Life Skills Program

The CMDS Life Skills program is a way for students in 1st-6th grade to earn House points and backpack buttons. It’s also a way for them to master some age-appropriate skills – at home and at school.

Each grade level has 10 skills to work on, like take out the trash in 2nd grade or cook an egg in 5th grade. HERE (and below) is the Life Skills list. When a student successfully completes a skill, he or she will receive points for their house and a button for their backpack to show they completed it. There are a few things to know before you get started!

  • Please do not contact your homeroom teacher with any questions, videos or pictures regarding the Life Skills program. All questions can be sent to David Vaughn, Student Life Coordinator, dvaughn@cmdsmemphis.org.

  • Photos or videos of any tasks done at home (some have to be!) can be sent to houses@cmdsmemphis.org. There also will be designated times at school to complete some of the challenges.

  • You can only do the 10 challenges in your grade level. You'll have to wait until next year to do the next 10!

  • Please do not think your child needs to do all of this immediately. Students should try to complete these tasks before the school year ends.

The program is more than just buttons and House points. While all of them are voluntary, we hope the skills provide some fun, useful learning at home. Maybe some of these skills will be with our students even after they leave CMDS. We can't wait to see all the new things our students learn to do!
