CMDS Bible Program Builds on Firm Foundation with New Curriculum

Nell Womack, Bible Teacher and Spiritual Life Coordinator

The Bible program is a cornerstone of a CMDS education. Building upon the rich traditions of the program, this year we began weaving Marty Machowski’s Gospel Story Curriculum into weekly Bible classes for 2K through 6th grade. It takes three years to complete the study, so by the time a 6th grader graduates from CMDS, he or she will journey through the entire story of the Bible three times!

Machowski’s curriculum has a uniquely structured approach that provides the opportunity for our entire school family to be immersed in the same portion of God’s Word together. For instance, during the first two weeks of Bible classes, students learned about the stories of Creation and the Fall found in Genesis chapters 1-3. While these lessons are differentiated to accommodate grade level abilities and interests, the same story is at the heart of each message.

If you would like to follow along with your family at home, I would recommend ordering a copy of Machowski’s The Gospel Story Bible. Beautifully written and illustrated, the book brings the Bible to life for children as they hear the good news of the Gospel presented within each story. In the words of Sally Lloyd Jones, “Every story in the Bible whispers His name.”

For nearly 65 years, Christ Methodist Day School’s Bible program has remained committed to faithfully teaching children the truth of God’s Word. Our prayer has always been that the Lord would sow seeds of faith in the hearts of our students at an early age, as we partner with families who share the same desire.

Through weekly Bible lessons and classroom devotions, accompanied by Chapel programs and special traditions like the Easter Walk-Through and the Birthday Party for Jesus, our goal has been to help the hearts of CMDS students grow in the knowledge of the depth of God’s love for them. We long for our graduates to leave this place ready to share that love with others, while serving God and living faithfully for His glory.

It has been my joy to move into the role of Bible teacher this year as I strive to follow in the faithful footsteps of some of my personal heroes, Dorris Smith, Dorree Jane Smith, and Cheryl Bryant. For generations, these Bible teachers guided CMDS students spiritually in countless ways. Join me in praying that God would continue to bless the reading and teaching of His Word in this place for many years to come.

For only the fourth time in the school’s 64-year history, CMDS has a new Bible teacher to begin the 2022-23 school year. Nell Womack taught 6th grade Literature and Language Arts for 16 years before transitioning to the Bible role this year. Nell has a deep knowledge of the spiritual traditions of CMDS, and she has a passion for the Lord and teaching the Bible.  She is a CMDS alum and a CMDS parent.

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.
