What’s Next for CMDS Graduates? Choosing a Middle School

by Alison Hinson, CMDS Director of Admissions

“We love getting CMDS graduates.”

“We can always count on CMDS graduates to be leaders and get involved.”

“What can we do to get more of your students to attend our school?”

These are words we hear each fall when Memphis-area middle schools begin seeking out the contact information of upcoming graduates.

CMDS graduates are continually sought after to attend middle schools in the area. Each graduating class typically matriculates to more than 10 schools each year.

What makes a CMDS graduate stand out in his or her new school?

I have been a part of the CMDS community for many years – as a student, teacher, parent and administrator. One of the things I value most and have seen firsthand in all of my roles is the strong foundation we provide our students.

Through its 60 years, CMDS has remained true to its mission to educate boys and girls through spiritual development, academic excellence, social responsibility and personal integrity. The heart of the school has remained the same, while curriculum and programs have adapted to best prepare our students for their next steps.

As a true primary school, we partner with parents in providing a well-rounded and nurturing school environment. While at CMDS, students are learning to be firm in their faith, how to problem solve in a co-ed environment and how to be effective leaders alongside their peers. Their strengths, learning style, personality and interests are developed.

CMDS truly is a safe place for students to take risks, explore their God-given talents and discover their likes and dislikes. Parents, in turn, have a front row seat to these amazing years of growth to really get to know their children.

What middle school fits your child best?

The CMDS experience provides valuable information for parents and students as they navigate the many middle schools in the area. Students have their years at CMDS to experience many different things. Then families are able to make well-informed decisions about the middle school that fits their student best.

They are navigating middle school options based on what they know about their 12 year old rather than what they knew about their 3 year old.

CMDS graduates will continue to hold a special place in the middle schools they attend for years to come. They are confident in who they are and eager to make their mark.

Whether as class president, on the playing field or in academics, our graduates make us proud!

This graph shows the middle schools CMDS graduates have attended cumulatively over the past five years.

Christ Methodist Day School opened its doors in 1958 to 75 kindergarten students. Since then, CMDS has stayed true to its Christian elementary school roots while continuing to thrive as one of the best private schools in Memphis. Come see why we are the primary choice for so many Memphis families.
