Spirits Theatre is the musical theater program of Christ Methodist Day School. Led by Jauna Ellis, Spirits Theatre launched in 2017 and presented its first-ever musical theater production, Aladdin Jr., in April 2018.

The mission of Spirits Theatre is to engage the CMDS community through the excitement of theater and musical theater. We seek to build self-esteem for our performers and stage crew; to teach the craft of theater to our elementary-age students; to encourage an appreciation of theater; and, most importantly, to have fun!

SK-2nd Grade

CMDS students in SK, 1st and 2nd Grade are invited to audition for and participate in a fall theater production each year. The audition consists of a song from the show and a script reading. No experience is necessary! These young students will make new friends across multiple grade levels, begin developing stage etiquette and performance poise and learn how to support their castmates and cheer each other on.

Rehearsals begin after Labor Day and are held twice a week after school. The show is scheduled for early November. Ticket sales will be open to the Memphis community. We will post an active ticket sales link here in October.

3rd-6th Grade

Our older students participate in a more-involved theater production in the spring. Auditions take place in November with rehearsals starting after the Christmas holiday. The audition requirements are similar to our younger students’ and, again, no experience is necessary. We seek to inspire our students through Spirits Theatre, building a community around the amazing world of musical theater. We want our students to work hard but also enjoy the process of putting it together! Our elementary students are the stars of the show, giving them the opportunity to participate in Broadway-style musicals at a young age.

The show for the 3rd-6th Graders requires a greater time commitment with rehearsals three times per week for a full three months, with the show taking place in early April. Ticket sales will be open to the Memphis community.
