Q&A with Dr. Williams: ‘When you are home, be home.’

top 5dbwHead of School Dr. Bryan Williams initiated the All Pro Dad program on the CMDS campus earlier this year in an effort to provide some quality time – and quality conversation – for dads and their young children.
So far, he’s led three monthly huddles and the final session of the school year is set for Thursday, April 28. We asked Dr. Williams to answer a few questions about All Pro Dad as he gears up for the huddle next week.

Q: What are some of the topics you have covered at the sessions?
DBW: So far we have discussed being a good friend, making wise choices and being brave.

Q: What made you want to bring this program to CMDS?
DBW: As a father of three children, I feel a strong calling to prepare myself in every way possible to be the best father God can guide me to be. I also grew up with a father who poured into my siblings and me as much as his schedule would allow. I remember fun trips and great teaching from him. I wanted to make sure to pass that legacy along to my own children.
When I came across All Pro Dad and the monthly huddles, I saw them as a great opportunity to get dads involved once a month with their children and initiate some meaningful conversations with the hopes that those conversations would continue and grow outside of that time. I feel like after talking to dads that have attended, this has definitely been a catalyst for developing relationships with their children.

Q: What do you hope CMDS dads can take away from these sessions?
DBW: I hope that they will take away some tools from the meetings and the website, allprodad.com, to help them train up their kids. I hope that they will feel empowered to be great dads and engage with their families at home.

Q: What is next Thursday’s topic?
DBW: This month is about “Finishing Well.” As we come to the end of the school year, it is a great opportunity to teach our children about the importance of finishing well. In 1 Corinthians 9:24, it tells us to “run the race in such a way as to win the prize.” That is what I hope our dads and kids take away in this last session.

Q: Do you plan to continue next year?
DBW: Yes! We will continue All Pro Dad next year, and I look forward to seeing it grow. We will start in August and meet the last Thursday of each month all they way through next May. I hope fathers will bring their kids and join us on this journey of being a Dad.
