Cartoonist Spends Day with CMDS Students
Christ Methodist Day School was honored to welcome nationally known cartoonist John Rose, writer and artist of the famous “Snuffy Smith” comic strip, to campus on Friday, March 4. His daylong visit included presentations in several classrooms, including three art classes, as well as an assembly in Rash Hall. The Virginia-born Rose explained how he got started in cartooning as a career, showed samples of his work, and conducted interactive demonstrations of his drawing techniques while encouraging our budding artists to pursue their dreams.
Fifth graders Ben Rizer and Thompson McDonald, whose parents were the highest bidders at the school’s recent auction, enjoyed a private session with Rose. Each boy went home with a personalized autographed drawing of his favorite Snuffy Smith character. A member of the National Cartoonists Society and the American Association of Editorial Cartoonists, John Rose holds a BFA in art and art history from James Madison University.
