Spirit Fund

Like all independent schools, Christ Methodist has an annual giving campaign. Ours is called The Spirit Fund.  This annual fund helps keep tuition increases to a moderate level. Dollars raised are used each year to add value to our students’ educational experience in ways that tuition can’t cover. Each family’s participation, at their individual level of ability, is very important.

From building bridges to creating catapults to designing a house that will withstand an earthquake, CMDS students are exposed to a STEAM Initiative that forms the foundation of the academic curriculum at our school. Rather than teach science, technology, engineering, art and math in a vacuum, our STEAM program integrates these subjects in an inquiry-based, hands-on curriculum that more closely aligns with what students will experience in high school, college, and the workforce. These days, students are used to working with technology.  Active engagement is always more meaningful than worksheets, and lot’s more fun!  The Spirit Fund supports the STEAM initiative each year.

Thanks to our many donors, we exceeded our 2015-16 Spirit Fund goals and were able to build some exciting new teaching spaces:

  • Students are living out the engineering design process in a brand new, state of the art Engineering Lab.  The E Lab is an an environment where they feel comfortable taking risks and trying new ideas, where they can tinker, create, collaborate, and build!
  • Early childhood students have a similar opportunity with the new Discovery Room, where the curriculum is a combination of science and an introduction to engineering.
  • Both, the early childhood and grade school art rooms have been re-imagined and re-designed to create the perfect space for teachers to guide each student to his/her highest level of creativity in a variety of mediums.

Watch for some great work to come out of these new classrooms!

The following are areas in which we hope to spend this year’s Spirit fund dollars:

  • Progressive classrooms, such as an outdoor learning garden
  • Tech tools for a 1:1 ratio of student to device
  • Student life, to include enhancements to Rash Hall and all outdoor play areas

We hope you will want to be a part of helping CMDS attain more exciting additions for teaching and learning by making a donation to the the 2016-2017 Spirit Fund.

Planned Giving- Tax laws intentionally encourage planned charitable giving which can many times reduce income tax, estate tax and capital gains tax. Some options are:

  • A bequest in your will
  • Long-term appreciated securities (stocks, bonds, mutual funds)
  • Life insurance policy with Christ Methodist Day School as the primary beneficiary
  • Real property
  • Personal property (artwork, jewelry, collectibles)
  • Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust – provides the donor an annual percentage payment based on the fair market value of an asset for the donor’s lifetime, while the school receives a substantial gift.
  • Charitable Remainder Unitrust – similar plan, but the payments to the donor fluctuate based on the fair market value of the asset each year.
