Community Outreach
At Christ Methodist, our students are made keenly aware of their social responsibilty as citizens of God's world, as well as their community. Service to others is an integral part of the school experience.
Below are some of the ways that Christ Methodist has recently touched others:
• All CMDS students participated in "Jump Rope for Heart" to raise $1828 for
The American Heart Association
• The SCA raised nearly $1900 to support alumni parent Jim Jaggers in his annual “Go Jim Go!” bike ride benifitting LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center.
• The SCA earned $250 providing drop-in baby sitting services on Parent/Teacher
conference day and donated the proceeds Christ Church Missions.
• Enough peanut butter, crackers, and powdered milk was collected at our
Thanksgiving Chapel to fill twenty-five 30-gallon storage boxes. The food
was donated to the United Methodist Neighborhood Center Food Pantry.
• Students of all ages brought 354 new toys, which our sixth graders packed up
and donated to the Binghampton Christmas Store.
• CMDS students made 200 Christmas cards for food boxes that were delivered
to elderly shut-ins and needy families from Shannon Elementary.
• Lots of songs, 46 Valentine cards, and countless hugs were delivered personally
by senior kindergarten students to senior residents at Kirby Pines Retirement Community.
• Seven day care classes participated in the Muscular Dystrophy "Hop-A-Thon"
exceeding their goal of sending one child to summer camp.
• Hundreds of new and gently used books were collected by the SCA and donated to
inner city children in the Binghampton area.
• The “Quake Quarters” drive, started by two students who shared a desire to help
the people of Haiti, collected 3180 quarters for earthquake victims.
• Thirty CMDS volunteers were among the more than 800 who took part in
"Christ Feeds." The group worked in teams to fill, weigh, seal, and box 100,000
meals which were sent to feed earthquake victims in Haiti.
